Meet Phyllis Past:
I was born in Indio, California in 1947. I moved to Stockton California before I
turned one, so you can say I grew up in Stockton.
I attended local schools and graduated from college here.
From an early age I always new I wanted to work with children.
In high school I began taking classes to prepare me for this. Right out of high school I began working for the Department
of Parks and Recreation and began my Junior College days. After receiving my Associates Degree I began working for Stockton
Unified School District. I was hired as a permit teacher for a school age child care program.
I got married during this time. Then I began having a family. I have two daughters.
I struggled working full time, family, and going to school.
Meet Phyllis Now:
Currently I am a Director of a large child care program. There are one-hundred and
sixty-five children ages six weeks to ten. I supervise twenty-eight staff. I am also the Resource Specialist for our entire
company. There are tweny-six other programs. I am a co-founder of this company. I am responsible for training and staff development
for the entire program. I also teach as an adjunct instructor at a local college. I am a proud grandmother of five grandchildren.
I am still married.
Believe it or not I do have hobbies. I love to be with my grandchildren and family
as much as possible. I love gardening and belong to the Cactus Society. I love shopping on the television...I love shopping.
I enjoy going to the movies and eating popcorn. I also belong to the Red Hat Society--this is women over fifty with an attitude.Currently
my hobby is study study study--to complete my Master's in Adult Education and Distance Learning.
Phyllis and the Future:
I will continue enjoying being a grandma. I want to teach
more at the college level. I would like to slow down the pace of life just a little, and take more time to smell the flowers.
I am committed to being a life long learner and to mentor to anyone who is open to receiving support and guidance so
I am able to give back some of the knowledge I have received thoroughout the years and still receiving.
Conclusion but still growing:
I know my learning isn't over. I will contiue learning until I am non-existant.
I am committed to being an advocate for children and for the adults who are committed to serving children and their families.
